In Times of Global Human Atrocities

At Tribesy Consulting, we regularly receive inquiries from clients seeking advice on how to navigate the issuance of statements regarding domestic and international human atrocities. It is crucial to recognize that human atrocities occur on a daily basis worldwide, and each atrocity is typically rooted in a complex and lengthy history. It simply is not feasible for organizations to respond to every event, and choosing which atrocities to address can lead to problems rooted in selection bias.

Responding solely based on recent events or the "current state" of a conflict may inadvertently cause harm to certain groups, or even the organization itself. Given the extensive history of most human conflicts, there are several considerations that should be discussed before an organization issues any statement on any subject. Here are a few examples:

Understanding the Conflict: Does the organization have a comprehensive understanding of the conflict's history, including the underlying causes and dynamics involved? What are your sources of information?

  1. Acknowledgment and Healing: Will the statement provide acknowledgement and contribute to the healing process for affected groups? Are you adopting a human-first approach, or being compelled into a more reactionary one?

  2. Tangible Support: Is the organization willing to take tangible actions to support marginalized or harmed groups? If not, does the statement risk being perceived as merely transactional?

  3. Consistency: Has the organization issued statements for other atrocities in the past? If not, will this statement unintentionally convey a sense of importance or prioritization that the organization does not intend to give?

  4. Consistency: Has the organization issued statements for other atrocities in the past? If not, will this statement unintentionally convey a sense of importance or prioritization that the organization does not intend to give?

At Tribesy Consulting, our core values prioritize human life and uphold the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948. We deeply respect human rights and strive to embody these principles in all aspects of our work. While we recognize the significance of addressing human rights violations across the globe, we do not issue statements for every violation that occurs. Instead, we focus on promoting sustainable solutions and positive change with all of our clients and their relationships through our consulting services.

Our unwavering commitment to global human rights drives us to foster inclusivity and equity in everything we do, particularly for those who are systematically and historically marginalized.

To assist our clients in navigating these challenging times, we have developed the Tribesy Employee Empathy in Trying Times active guide. This resource helps organizations facilitate appropriate responses and actions within their own structures, ensuring that empathy and understanding are at the forefront of their decision-making processes.

We remain dedicated to putting the Human in Humanity by supporting our clients in making informed choices and taking deep and impactful action towards Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
